Yoga

Yoga is a beautiful practice that combines philosophy with the physical practice to create spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being for the practitioner. Yoga in any form benefits people of all ages and bodies of all types. Over time, Yoga helps to ease body aches, increase physical fitness, and calm anxiety. Yoga may also come recommended from a doctor or physical therapist for recovery. If you have a serious condition, please consult your doctor before beginning a Yoga practice.

If you are looking for a starting point for your Yoga practice, read How to Begin a Yoga Practice.

Please note, while there are many outlets for learning and practicing Yoga, I highly recommend doing so under the supervision of a trained Yoga instructor. Yoga is not to be taken lightly, no matter how experienced one may be.

When considering a Yoga instructor, please take into account that Yoga looks different for each instructor and practitioner. This means that you will encounter instructors with different training backgrounds and spiritual beliefs. Please do not hesitate to ask questions to make sure you are comfortable in your practice.

As a personal preference, I do not teach spirituality nor include conversation about deities, religion, or other spiritual practices in teaching Yoga. In my sessions, meditation is not used as a spiritual tool, but rather to practice deep breathing and body awareness. Mantras and chants are not used to invoke deities, but are instead used to practice positive affirmations (I am calm) or create a positive intention and focus (I will practice holding a pose for one breath longer than I usually do).

While I do use chakras in my personal practice, conversation and flow around chakras can be included or omitted in your practice at your request.

Lastly, my training in Yoga is of Western Yoga philosophy. Western Yoga allows for religious freedom.
